Fall is Lawn Renovation Time! Repair and Renovate Your Lawn from Summer Damage
One of our clients called the other day and asked if all this extreme heat and torrential rain should make her worry about her lawn. I asked if she had adjusted her sprinkler timers to compensate for each of these extreme conditions–this is when she realized she hadn’t done so.
But she’s not alone!
What excessive heat and rain can do to your lawn
With all of the extreme heat (and rain!) recently, much stress has been placed on Omaha area lawns. We are seeing an increase in turf disease (a.k.a. fungus), too. When temperatures get above 100 degrees, plant injury can occur, which greatly affects your lawn’s health. Sometimes you will see patches of more brown or yellow grass appear in areas hardest hit by constant sun. Yellow patches can also be a sign of too much rain. Excessive amounts of water will cause root rot and can lead to fungus or turf disease.
Help! What should I do?
Well, we are starting to enter the cooler portion of the year: fall. Fall is actually the BEST time to repair and renovate your lawn from the damage this summer! Here is what our fall lawn renovation system includes:
- Aeration. Here in Nebraska, our soil is compacted clay, which makes it necessary to aerate regularly. We recommend aerating your lawn in the spring and fall for the best results. Learn more about our Aeration program here.
- Overseeding. The best time to overseed is in the fall along with your aeration. We recommend seeding every fall for the best results. Learn more about our Overseeding program here.
- Topdressing. Topdressing adds organic matter and the beneficial microorganisms of compost to your lawn. Topdressing reduces lawn stresses, helps keep thatch under control, and acts as a long-term natural fertilizer. Learn more about our Topdressing program here.
