Why you don’t want to skip fall lawn care this year
It’s time to think about fall lawn care – aeration, overseeding and topdressing with compost. You put time and energy all summer into making your lawn green and lush. Maybe you even have the best looking lawn on the block, so now that fall is approaching, your work is done, right? Wrong! Your lawn is made up of living organisms. If not cared for regularly, your grass will suffer. In fact, there could be problems lurking under the surface right now that you aren’t aware. So, like scheduling your yearly physical, Paradise Lawns recommends scheduling your yearly aeration, overseeding and topdressing with compost each fall. By doing so consistently, you will have a lush, and healthy lawn year after year.
Still undecided if it is necessary? Let’s take a closer look at fall aeration along with overseeding and topdressing with compost and discuss the benefits and why you should schedule all three every fall.
Time to schedule your 2020 fall aeration, overseeding and topdressing with compost
Fall seems far away during these hot summer days, but now is the perfect time to schedule your fall 2020 aeration, overseeding and topdressing with compost. Paradise Lawns recommends you start with aeration, then overseeding followed by an application of topdressing with compost. Since overseeding should be complete by mid-September, the time to get started is now. Because what you do in 2020 will determine how healthy and lush your lawn will be in 2021. Let’s look at each step and learn why they are important.
Prepare for spring with fall aeration, dormant grass seed planting and topdressing with compost
We recently talked about the importance of yearly aeration, overseeding and topdressing with compost. Ideally, overseeding treatments should be completed by the middle of September. This allows for seed germination and establishment. Although there will most likely be a return to warmer temperatures, we are in a transition period with cooler overnight temps and lower daytime temps. With surrounding states already receiving snowfall and freezing temperatures, it won’t be long before we will be moving towards winter conditions ourselves. What does this mean for your lawn? If you haven’t scheduled your fall maintenance program with us yet, you should do so sooner rather than later.
Your lawn is a living, breathing part of our planet
When life gets busy, it can be easy to forget that your lawn is a living, breathing part of our planet. “Many organisms inhabit soil: bacteria, fungi, algae, invertebrates (insects, nematodes, slugs, earthworms) and vertebrates (moles, mice, gophers).“ There is an entire world below your feet. Don’t let compacted soil choke your lawn this fall. Help it breathe with aeration.

All things considered, we had a pretty awesome summer in terms of weather. Your children probably had a great time running through the sprinklers, rolling around in the grass and doing cartwheels, and playing fetch with the dog. While this is great for your children (and your pets!), your lawn needs some love so that it can spread its roots and gain its strength for the winter months. That “love” it needs includes aeration, overseeding, and topdressing. read more →
